Statistically, sport bikes or "crotch rockets," as they're also known, are much more prone to accidents than any other kind of motorcycle.

Developed to resemble race track bikes these are immensely powerful - some are able to hit almost 200mph. Just like asking a thoroughbred race horse to trot all day, these bikes and riders are often tempted to exploit some of their immense performance. When this exceeds the rider's ability or the traffic conditions - a very big accident involving great lost can result. This explains why sport bike insurance tends to be considerably more expensive than say, a cruiser.
